Long ago, Lily’s grandmother Rose worked as a kitchen maid at Thornecroft Castle, and now Elizabeth, Dowager Countess of Frockmorton, is celebrating her 100th birthday. Rose still has fond feelings for her onetime employer, so a group trip to Yorkshire is planned. It’s also an opportunity for Lily to visit her boyfriend, who’s currently working in England—and to indulge in some British tea.


Much has changed, however, and the ancestral home is now a luxury hotel, which will be closed for a week to accommodate the big bash, much to the chagrin of Elizabeth’s grandson, Julien. Lily  overhears an argument among the younger generation about the fate of the family fortune. Little do they know that Elizabeth plans to sell the famous Frockmorton Sapphires out of the family for the first time in centuries . . .


The icing on the cake comes when the jewels suddenly vanish—and things really go nuts when a party guest dies from an allergic reaction to almonds that someone smuggled into Lily’s coronation chicken sandwiches. Now she’ll have to scour the property to find out who would commit murder in such a manor . . . 


And I thought . . . 

What a lovely  return to a new to me Favorite  series.   

I have only read the preceding book.  I enjoyed all the cast returned in this title. 

A trip to England was meant to be a fun time for all. 

But ... it is a Cozy Mystery. 

The girls Lily, Bernie and Grand Ma Rose got caught up not only in a murder but a million dollar heist.  And sleuthing had to get underway.  Since Lily just happened to make the sandwiches that ended up laced with . . .  

Simon who was a town away and Matt who was in town on business popped in to help.  Of course Simon wasn't too keen on Lillue getting involved  but what could she do! 

The England cast was all charming  even the precocious twins that got into everything. And enjoyed sneaking  into the kitchen for biscuits. There was a little of tension between the family. Mud slinging and the such. 

In her attempts at keeping the family together and not to bicker about her estate she was turning 100 years old.  Sadly her grandson ate the wrong sandwich. 

All ends tidy.  

And Lily even has a heart stopping revelation from Simon.  

Will the next book include wedding bell? 

I cannot wait  to read it!

Shadow of the Missing by Lauren Carr

  My Review  I had forgotten  how much I enjoy Lauren Carr's books.  It has been awhile since I have read a Chris Matheson and a Geezer Squad title.  I think one of the best things that Lauren Carr does is including a cast of characters.  Which is important  because there are a lot of characters to keep straight.  There are alot of suspects in Shadows of the Missing because there are alot of victims in this 45 year old cold case.  The main story revolves around the search for Helen Chris's wife's parents.  Helen and her younger sister have memories  from the last time they saw their mom.  Lauren  Carr keeps the reader interested  with multi plots that actually  all weave together  in one main plot.    There are some great regular characters in the series that uncover leads and hidden secrets.  And new characters like Percy  that I suspect might make their way into another title.  I r...
