A Deadly Combination by Joy Patrick My Review
About the book
Ah, the 70’s. Disco, Star Wars.
And a heist that baffled the police every decade since.
Lilly Livingston is celebrating her year mark as owner of Magnolia Manor—but things aren’t going exactly as expected.
As an FBI unit descends on Drifter's Cove to tackle cold cases from a bygone era, a local billionaire, the elderly Baron Carrington, nears the end with his estate and heirs in question.
Meanwhile, more tourists and riff-raff pour into once-sleepy Drifter’s Cove, frustrating Chief Crowder as she struggles to run a tight ship. As tempers flare, one probationer protests his sentence, sparking a deadly conflict.
When Lilly's friend becomes a prime suspect in the murder, she dives head-first into small-town scandals, encountering shadowy figures and risking her life in the process.
So, don your bellbottoms and join Lilly in a suspenseful ride where past and present collide.
May the force be with you.
The series
And I thought
My favorite so far!
I don't think the book details do it justice. It really is not about the 70's.
A cold case plot is a huge part but that is a sub plot. That does pull the story together.
All the cast from book 1 returns. All the guests with exception of the older couple who live in England.
The folk singer joins Lilly's party virtually and announces a Go Fund Me which begins to net a good deal of cash for the Drifters Cove Community.
I am gonna include a bit of a spoiler at the end Eric finally decides to return to D.C.
And Quigley decides to stay after considering leaving town to help his elderly father.
The fancy inn in the neighboring town ends up being run as a historical land mark and Destination Hotel and Anne is kept on to manage. Proceeds were designated for the town.
I was surprised that Eric didn't buy it but I was glad he left town.
Marrisa plays into the 70's theme when she dresses to manipulate the assistant chief of police to get info.
Res only returns at the very end. His absence and how Marissa flirts with other men frustrate Lily. Marrisa finally tells Lilly Rez knows all about her flirtatious sleuthing.
I was also surprised that Seth left the inn but lives and works close by. He returned for Lilly's party with Scarlet and her last puppy Sarge who ends being adopted. And will be trained as a police dog.
In this one Lilly and Ann do all the sleuthing and solve the crimes.
All the titles have been 5 star for me but this one was my favorite.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
No one asked me to write a review.
I purchased the audio version set on Amazon.
