Murder and the Forgetten Fortune by Jenni Marie My Review
About the book
In Willow Creek, history isn’t just preserved—it’s protected… sometimes fatally.
When respected historian Harold Whitcomb dies after a fall near the town’s historic root cellar, most call it a tragic accident. But Cynthia Harper—former NYC strategist turned small-town B&B owner—has learned that Willow Creek’s calm exterior often hides careful rearrangements. With her golden retriever Duke sniffing out tension as reliably as crumbs, Cynthia starts asking inconvenient questions about missing archive pages and a trust tied to valuable land.
The town’s polished Historical Society president insists everything was “withdrawn for review.” A board member with deep ties to the Whitcomb parcels seems nervous about property lines. And Franklin, ever watchful, is already spinning quiet reassurance before facts are settled. Everyone claims to be protecting the town.
But protection can look a lot like control.
As official records shift and timelines tighten, Cynthia realizes that exposing the truth could fracture the community she’s come to love—and put her squarely at the center of a very public reckoning.
Because in Willow Creek, whoever controls the past controls the future… and someone is willing to rewrite both.
And I thought
Most of the way thru I was ambivalent.
This title is written differently than any other Cozy Mystery I have had the pleasure of reading.
The dog Duke is a Main Character. Not just a sweet side kick.
Cynthia constantly talks to him and judges her thoughts on Duke and sometimes her actions on Duke's behavior.
I googled his role . . .
Duke is a main character in The Willow Creek Cozy Mystery series by Jenni (author Tammy L. Grace). He is the fiercely loyal, smart, and observant Golden Retriever who assists the amateur sleuth, Cynthia Harper, in her investigations. In Death At Willow Creek Lake (Book Six), Duke is right by Cynthia's side as she tries to solve a murder during a brutal blizzard.
I did not put it together that Harold the deceased was indeed a town matriarch. I just thought he was just a nice old man.
Cynthia dives into finding out the truth to prove that his death was not just an accident.
Another reason that this book is different is there is not a multitude of suspects. Which is refreshing.
It is easy to decipher who is responsible for Harolds death.
In the end I enjoyed this title.
I will read another title when I get a chance.
I enjoyed the Audible version.
I was not asked to write a review.
