Murder at the Lakeside Library by Holly Danvers My Review

About the book  In this series debut perfect for fans of Jenn McKinlay and Miranda James, Rain Wilmot must discover the killer, before the book closes on her life. Rain Wilmot has just returned to her family's waterfront log cabin in Lofty Pines, Wisconsin after the untimely death of her husband. The cabin is peaceful compared to Rain's corporate job and comes with an informal library that Rain's mother, Willow, used to run. But as Rain prepares for the re-opening of the library, all hopes for a peaceful life are shattered when she discovers the body of Thornton Hughes, a real estate buyer, on the premises. The community of Lofty Pines starts pointing fingers at Willow, since she has been unusually absent from the library this summer. A fishy rumor surfaces when Rain learns that Willow had been spending a lot of time with Thornton. The town even thought they were having an affair. While theories swirl about Thornton's death, Rain takes it upon herself to solve the cas...

About the book  She lives life by her own rules. Trust no one is first on the list. He's sworn to protect her, but the secrets she's holding back will get them both killed. Being a middle son in the hard-driving MacKenzie family, Harbor patrol officer Teo MacKenzie knows how to tow the line and stay out of trouble. He works hard, plays hard, and prays hard. But the day he finds an unconscious woman adrift on an outgoing tide, all the rules he's lived by evaporate, because if he's going to keep Dr. Kendall Rodriguez alive, he'll need to rewrite every single one of them. After a hardscrabble childhood in foster care, Kendall Rodriguez can hardly believe she's landed her dream job as a clinical researcher for an up and coming firm testing a revolutionary new drug. But her dream becomes a life-threatening nightmare when she discovers the new miracle drug kills. Now she's running for her life. Trust the wrong person, and it's game over, but without help, sh...

Rising Storm by Edie James My Review

About the book  Homecomings can be deadly. When retired Delta Force operative Rollo MacKenzie returns home to become chief of police in tiny MacKenzie Cove, he has lots of expectations...none of them good. What he doesn't expect is to find his first love targeted by a murderer willing to do anything to bury a twenty-year-old secret. After her husband's sudden death, Alyssa Archer scrimped and saved to purchase the abandoned farmhouse on the prettiest hill in McKenzie Cove, but someone wants her off the land. If she won’t leave, she’ll die. Rollo MacKenzie might have stolen her heart years ago, but this time, their association is strictly business. No way she's falling for the former football star. Not after all these years. With the Lord's help, she'll get out of this with both her life--and her heart--in one piece. But as Rollo and Alyssa fight to unmask those responsible for the vicious attacks, they discover a frightening truth. Not everything that's buried i...

Murder and the Forgetten Fortune by Jenni Marie My Review

About the book  In Willow Creek, history isn’t just preserved—it’s protected… sometimes fatally. When respected historian Harold Whitcomb dies after a fall near the town’s historic root cellar, most call it a tragic accident. But Cynthia Harper—former NYC strategist turned small-town B&B owner—has learned that Willow Creek’s calm exterior often hides careful rearrangements. With her golden retriever Duke sniffing out tension as reliably as crumbs, Cynthia starts asking inconvenient questions about missing archive pages and a trust tied to valuable land. The town’s polished Historical Society president insists everything was “withdrawn for review.” A board member with deep ties to the Whitcomb parcels seems nervous about property lines. And Franklin, ever watchful, is already spinning quiet reassurance before facts are settled. Everyone claims to be protecting the town. But protection can look a lot like control. As official records shift and timelines tighten, Cynthia re...

The Dog Sitter Takes the Lead by Anthony Johnston My Review

Image
About the book  The Dog Sitter Detective Takes the Lead by Antony Johnston Gwinny Tuffel is preparing for her first acting role in a decade in the West End, but she is dog-sitting on the side to keep the wolf from the door. So, when ageing rock star Crash Double needs help with his Border Collie, she jumps at the chance. After all, looking after the charming Ace on Crash's Little Venice houseboat shouldn't be an onerous task. But that's before the singer's dead body surfaces during the annual Canal Carnival festivities. While the police dismiss the death as an accident, Gwinny suspects murder most foul. With a medley of suspects and some far-fetched motives to make heads or tails of, it is up to Gwinny, with Ace's on-the-ground knowledge, to make sure the killer faces the music. And I thought  Well I immediately liked the person that ended up being the victim.   This was a great read! A new to me author and series.   I will definitely read more....

Caught on the Book by Lauara Gail Black My Review

About the book  The annual fishing tournament and festival in Hokes Folly, North Carolina, is the high-water mark event of the year. Antiquarian bookseller Jenna Quinn, owner of the Twice Upon a Time bookstore, is ready to catch some new customers with her fishing-themed book display at the festival. That is, she was...until a local author was found dead in his booth. All fingers point to Frank Sutter, a former detective with the police department. His soon-to-be ex-wife had been dating the victim, and Frank had been seen having an argument with him earlier that day. When Keith Logan, Jenna’s boyfriend and detective with the local police, asks Jenna for help to solve the case, she’s shocked. Frank was Keith’s former partner and someone who had been determined to pin more than one murder on Jenna. Frank doesn’t want Jenna’s help any more than Jenna wants to help him, but the two will have to put aside their animosity for each other if they want to reel in the killer. This boo...
