Rising Storm by Edie James My Review
Homecomings can be deadly.
When retired Delta Force operative Rollo MacKenzie returns home to become chief of police in tiny MacKenzie Cove, he has lots of expectations...none of them good.
What he doesn't expect is to find his first love targeted by a murderer willing to do anything to bury a twenty-year-old secret.
After her husband's sudden death, Alyssa Archer scrimped and saved to purchase the abandoned farmhouse on the prettiest hill in McKenzie Cove, but someone wants her off the land. If she won’t leave, she’ll die.
Rollo MacKenzie might have stolen her heart years ago, but this time, their association is strictly business. No way she's falling for the former football star. Not after all these years. With the Lord's help, she'll get out of this with both her life--and her heart--in one piece.
But as Rollo and Alyssa fight to unmask those responsible for the vicious attacks, they discover a frightening truth. Not everything that's buried is dead.
Welcome to MacKenzie Cove, a small beach town hiding big secrets...and deadly lies.
Join the tight-knit members of the MacKenzie clan as they dodge killers and unravel mysteries, finding lasting love and renewed faith along the way. A clean, romantic suspense series, guaranteed to lift your heart.
And I thought
I was happy to find this series on Audible.
This is a new to me series and author. I expect a good many hours of reading enjoyment.
Author Edie James gives the reader a great plot. And some great characters.
There is a prelude setting up the plot and how the victim ended up in a well.
The book begins with Alyssa getting ready to move into her new house which has taken way too long. Going through a bunch of set backs she finally closes and preps for the big day. A phone call from the plumber let's Alyssa know he can come and do the work on the well the next day.
Rollo is returning to town with his daughter and as they drive in sirens alert him of something amiss.
When a body is found all work is stopped and then a cat and mouse game begins as they realize there is no question that someone they know is responsible for the young girls death.
I enjoyed all the characters.
Rollo and Alyssa are a perfect couple.
Alyssa is cautious at first expecting the McKenzie family to blame her for Rolla's mom's death caused by Alyssa's deceased husband.
The McKenzie clan welcomes her with open arms and helps in the investigation.
I really liked 'Chip Mac' Rollo's dad a retired policeman. He assures Alyssa that he thinks something is wonky about his wife's death. And does not blame her or her family.
Chip has a Murder Board in his bedroom.
The ending is great as Alyssa is saved by the The Clan from the air and the water. A very exciting ending.
And then a bit of a surprise at the demise of the murderer
I really enjoyed this book and will read book 2 next.
I was not asked to write a review.
The Series
Rising Seas:
Fleeing his old life gave him hope. Will his deadly secrets kill their only chance at love?
Detective Will Natchez isn't who he seems. On the run from a ruthless gang of dirty cops, he's hiding in plain sight. Getting hired by the tiny MacKenzie Cove PD was his first stroke of luck since fleeing witness protection. The second? Meeting gorgeous psychologist Viv MacKenzie.
Or maybe that was a sign of doom.
Because his whole existence is a lie, and the bill's coming due.
Rising Wind:
He's sworn to protect her, but her secrets will get them both killed.
Being a middle son in the hard-driving MacKenzie family, Harbor patrol officer Teo MacKenzie knows how to tow the line and stay out of trouble. He works hard, plays hard, and prays hard.
But the day he finds an unconscious woman adrift on an outgoing tide, all the rules he's lived by evaporate. If he's going to keep Dr. Kendall Rodriguez alive, he'll have to rewrite every one of them.
